With her over a decade expertise in building businesses in emerging markets backed by her outstanding success at Vodafone Ghana as the then Chief Marketing Officer and the CEO of Tigo in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Facebook has scored the right person as it seeks to connect more people to the internet in Africa and make a substantial impact on the continent with its Express Wifi initiative.
Uche Ofodile has today been announced as the latest addition to the amazing Africa-focused Facebook team, as Facebook’s Regional Head-Africa for Express Wifi.
Facebook’s Express Wifi initiative is meant to bring internet access to underserved locations–with Africa’s poor connectivity, that’s definitely a big and challenging market which needs the excellence and continent know-how of someone like Ofodile.
“Express Wifi empowers local entrepreneurs to help provide quality internet access to their neighbors and make a steady income. Working with local internet service providers or mobile operators, they’re able to use software provided by Facebook to connect their communities,” according to Facebook.
Last year, Facebook launched Express Wifi in India to the excitement of the locals.
Uche, who is married to Ghanaian musician-Captain Planet of 4×4 fame took to social media to express her joy in joining Facebook and particularly, relocating to London, a city she loves just as much as her husband.
