DCOP David Asante Appeatu Named As New Inspector General of Police

The president Nana Akufo-Addo has named DCOP David Asante Appeatu as new Inspector General of Police. He takes over from John Kudalor whose retirement was announced hours ago at the Flagstaff House.

The president said the new IGP must lead a new vision for a professional police service where acts of violence and intimidation are abhorred.

COP Apeatu, who hitherto was the head of the General ICT Department of the police headquarters in Accra, replaces John Kudalor, who went to the Flagstaff House to bid farewell to the President as his tenure expires in February.

COP Apeatu was also the former Director General in charge of Research.

He also served as Director of the Specialised Crime and Analysis (SCA) Unit at the INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon France.

DCOP Asante-Apeatu is a Masters’ degree holder in Chemistry from the Kharkov State University in Russia and a trained Forensic Scientist in various disciplines such as Document Examination, Firearms and Ballistics, and Controlled Drug Analysis.

He is a Government of Ghana gazetted Firearms Examiner and also a gazetted Controlled Drug Analyst. Knowledgeable and diligent in service, the new IGP is also fluent in French, a quality the president found most heart warming.
