The Black Stars of Ghana have agreed to a 50% reduction in their bonuses after holding talks with the new government, Sports Minister designate Isaac Asiamah has revealed.
Players of the senior national team would now pocket $5,000 per group game at the ongoing Afcon instead of the previous $10,000 figure.
The minister designate flew out to Gabon to meet the team and announce government’s package,, which they agreed to.
As a bonus, the team would receive the full $5,000 each for the Egypt game irrespective of the result, having already qualified for the quarter final stage. The team would receive $5,000 more in case of a quarter final win, and $6,000 for a semi final win instead of the initially planned $12,000.
Winning the ultimate trophy would earn the players $75,00 each instead of the earlier planned $15,000 – but a special package would be added to the team’s earnings in case they lift the trophy.
