Google Has ‘Dawg’ Dr Bawumia And Are Refusing To Recognise The Franchise Exercised By Ghanaians – SAD!

Ghanaians went to the polls on December 7, 2016, and voted to elect new leaders to replace the stale, underperforming ones – but in some form of Yahya Jammeh tactics, the world’s largest search engine is refusing to bow to change.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won the December 7 polls by a comfortable margin (not a comfortable lead), and on January 7 was sworn in alongside his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who officially became Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

Yet, (as at this writing), a search for who the vice President of Ghana is on google brings up the face of a man Ghanaians love so much, but not as our vice President. Just as Yahya Jammeh has refused to leave his seat despite losing, Amissah Arthur is hanging onto dear life in the Google sweepstakes of executive power.

It’s not like Google is unaware of the change in power in Ghana. A search for President of Ghana brings up the correct face, that of the 72 year old man who has fought tooth and nail to enter that office since the day he was born.

Perhaps, this little occurrence tells us how insignificant the office of Veep can be at times, largely an ignored position. Dr Bawumia looks set to change that by being quite involved with governance.

Either way, Google should fix this quite soon. As Donald Trump would say, this is ‘SAD!’.
