This iconic photo emanates from the 1961 visit of the British monarch Queen Elizabeth II to then newly independent Ghana.

The monarch came to see the Osagyefo, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who had led the country to Independence from the throes of her kingdom’s clutches.

The visit was iconic and even spawned a song that has been popular throughout Ghana’s history.
