Suing Sarkodie Is To ‘Set Example For The Younger Ones To Learn From It’ – Mark Okraku Mantey

Mark Okraku Mantey, CEO of Slip Music, has revealed that his impending lawsuit against Sarkodie for copyright infringement is to serve as a lesson to up and coming artists about the dangers of copyright infringement.

In other words, he is using the top rapper in the country as a scapegoat to teach others some lessons on what they need to avoid doing.

Mark Okraku Mantey recently revealed he plans to sue Sarkodie after the rapper composed a version of Daasebre Gyamenah’s iconic ‘Kokooko’ as a tribute to the late highlife legend.

But Mantey, who produced the original version, owns the rights to the song, and thus is planning to sue Sark.

Speaking in an interview, he said he was suing mostly because Sarkodie could have simply asked permission from him with one phone call yet chose not to.

“Under normal circumstance, if he had called me to say that he is doing Kokoko remake as a tribute to Daasebre, I would’ve just said go ahead, I want to hear it sound good or even better.

“The most important part of this whole thing is how it sounds funny. I didn’t hear anything from him only to see Jon Germain send me a link and when I opened, I heard my song playing.

“So after hearing my song play, I said at least show me some respect.” he said.

“I am the sampling master in this country so we know how this game plays. I know when the person does not have access to me or I don’t have access to the person, it is a different ball game but when the person is just next door, you know the person can chase you so we shouldn’t take this case for granted.

“I want to see the steps he will make. If he doesn’t make any steps then it gives me a clue that he doesn’t want to respect the industry then we will use him to set example for the younger ones to learn from it.” he added.

Sarkodie and his handlers are still yet to comment on the ongoing controversy.
