Former President John Mahama has “agreed” not to contest in the 2020 presidential elections, according to his brother Ibrahim Mahama.

The Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners revealed the not-so-shocking decision during an interaction with a group of journos ahead of last weekend’s swearing-in of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo. Ibrahim — who was embroiled in several nepotistic accusation during his brother’s tenure — said it is time for his brother to rest, as he has given his all to his party and the nation.

“John has given his all in politics to the NDC and Ghana and we think it is just fair that we allow him to rest,” he said.

“We were very supportive and instrumental in convincing him to partner the late Prof. J.E.A. Mills, and when the time came for him to contest for President, we supported him and advised him to go for it…Now we have advised him not to make a comeback in 2020 “.

He also added that former president John Mahama agreed with the family not to run 2020. “He (former President Mahama) agreed with us,” Ibrahim said.
