Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is stranded without an official residence for himself, reports indicate.
This is because President John Dramani Mahama, who inhabits the Cantoment building that has historically been the official residence of vice Presidents, has not left the residence and intends staying there through his retirement.
Mahama, then as Vice President, moved into the building after it was vacated by Alhaji Aliu Mahama following the NPP’s defeat in 2008. However, he remained in the building as President and has written of his intention to continue inhabiting the property.
A letter from his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to the transition team indicated the President’s decision to use the residence as his official ‘retirement home’ – which is due him as the former President of the land.
Vice President Bawumia is without an official residence thus far due to the situation.
