One of the more bizzare storylines of last year involved the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, making a seemingly innocuous tweet about the harmattan which brought down legions of Ghanaians on his back.
Benjamin is a very active and generally mischievous twitter user who engages in banter and makes numerous jokes daily – but for some reason this one got under the skin of many people (sore NDC supporters).
Anyway, Benjamin has been open in his tweets that his mission to Ghana ends soon and he would be returning back home. But in an exchange with a follower earlier today, he gave more clarity of when he could be expected to leave.
“I’m leaving GH in the middle of this year, sadly.” he wrote in response to a twitter user’s inquiry.
“…I’m going home to London after 12 straight years overseas.”
This should make some Ghanaians happy, undoubtedly – they are not used to diplomats who aren’t unfiltered and like to have fun online.
