Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher has passed away, a spokesperson has revealed, just days after she was rushed to the hospital following a heart attack.
Family spokesperson Simon Halls revealed the news in a statement released Tuesday.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the statement said.
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher suffered the heart attack Friday just towards the end of her flight from London to Los Angeles, where she was returning to spend the holidays with family.
She was rushed to hospital where it was revealed she was in critical condition, but has unfortunately succumbed.
Fisher was most known for portraying Leia Skywalker (Princess Leia) on the 70’s cult classic Star Wars, the original trilogy – alongside Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. The trio reprised their roles in 2015’s ‘The Force Awakens’.
Fisher is survived by daughter Billie, who’s also an actress and currently stars in Fox’s ‘Scream Queens’.
