How things change! Decades ago Akufo-Addo was a vociferous critic in Rawling’s Ghana, and now Rawlings would have to live in Akufo-Addo’s.
The two political opponents, former President Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo met at Rawlings’ Ridge residence on boxing day as the President-elect paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s longest reigning head of state.
The pair, despite years of political acrimony, has struck up a sort of détente in recent years. Rawlings, who has become more and more estranged from his own party as the years go by, recently described the 72 year old then opposition leader as ‘incorruptible’.
Nana Addo won the December 7 elections comfortably, to unseat President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of J.J Rawling’s own National Democratic Congress (NDC).
