President-elect Akufo-Addo Reacts To Trade Fair Gas Station Explosion – Promises To Fight Citing Of Gas Station In Populated Areas

President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed deep sadness over the explosion which occurred at a gas station near the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in La late on Thursday.
Responding to the issue on social media, the President-elect expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, but also expressed a commitment for the underlying issue to be tackled to avoid similar incidents in the future.
“I have learnt with sadness of the news of a gas explosion near the Trade Fair Centre, resulting in the loss of 6 lives, and injuries to many others. My deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“It is about time we take a second look at the citing of gas stations in our country, and ensure the strict enforcement of, and adherence to safety regulations, so as to forestall the occurrence of any more of such avoidable incidents.” the future commander in chief added.
A gas station near the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra exploded late on Thursday, with about nine people confirmed dead so far.

 The Glory Gas filling station, situated between the La Cemetery and the Trade Fair Centre, caught fire around 6pm from a yet to be discerned cause.

About nine people are believed dead, with dozens more injured and in critical condition. The Ghana National Fire Service were on the scene fighting the blazing inferno after it occurred.
The conversation over safety regulation over filling stations reached a fever pitch in Ghana following the tragic June 3 disaster last year, but as usual, the din died down after a few days.
