During the 2016 general election, it can be recalled, seven candidates contested to be voted president including one independent candidate.
Five of the parties including one independent candidate were all campaigning for change but it went the way of the NPP candidate, Nana Addo-Danquah Akufo-Addo.
But many of the parties are happy it didn’t go to the ruling party NDC. It was on this jubilation and well wishing tangent that Ernest Owusu Bempah of the National Democratic Party (NDP) is saying the NDC will stay in opposition for twelve years— but it all goes back to 2011 when he was a member of the NDC.
Since the FONKAR (Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings) and GAME (Get Atta Mills Elected) battle for the soul and face of the NDC party, there has been deep crack and fall out since they came from Sunyani after the congress to elect a flag bearer for their party in 2011.
It was then Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of the founder of the NDC who contested the then sitting President, the late Prof. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills for the chance to lead the NDC into the 2012 election leaving scars and bruises on the minds and soul of many party faithfuls who broke away from the party and followed the founder’s wife to form their own party but didn’t get the chance to contest the 2012 general elections due to disqualification from the race.
Many like the likes of Dela Coffie also betrayed the FONKAR group and rejoin the NDC after then sitting President died and it was the chance for his Vice President, John Dramani Mahama to lead the party into the 2012 general election.
Ever since the battle lines was drawn, the likes of Ernest Owusu Bempah and others who stayed true to the original core principles of the NDC vowed to expose and fight the alleged naked thievery, corruption and vulgar display of opulence in the NDC under the new breed of people in the NDC in government.
It is was the power and “naked corruption” that when expose will topple the NDC government that hold them together like glue in the winter season, since 2011 and after managing to win the 2012 general election.
It is not surprising Ernest Owusu Bempah operations director of the National Democratic Party (NDP) is happy and stating on authority that the NDC will stay in opposition for 12 solid years.
His wishes can only come true if the incoming administration, do what the Ghanaian electorate want and administer first class governance.
