Portugal and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or award for the fourth time in his career, beating rival Lionel Messi after a massive year laced with silverware.
Ronaldo finished ahead of the Barcelona forward in second, with Atletico Madrid’s French forward Antoine Greizmann coming in third.
Ronaldo led both Real Madrid and Portugal to the UEFA Champions League and European Championship trophies, scoring a bucketload of goals along the way, as he usually does. This is the fourth Ballod d’Or of his career, more than any other player except, Lionel Messi, who has five.
The award, given out by France Football Magazine, has been fused with the FIFA World Football of the Year award for the past few years, but the magazine split from FIFA again this year.
