The fixation of the African with religion shows day after day in such absurd situations but, thankfully, we have no capacity to learn from our mistakes – so I am doomed to report on such stories over and over again.
It wasn’t a fortnight ago that a South African preacher was in the news for spraying the face of congregants with insecticide, yet here we are with another similar charlatan harming gullible folk in the name of God.
Reports indicate Prophet Rufus Phala of AK Spiritual Christian Church in Makgodu, Limpopo, South Africa, made church members drink the disinfectant dettol, claiming it would be able to heal their sicknesses.
Rufus told his church members that it had been a revelation from God which he was simply following. He later revealed that he had received calls from people professing their healing from drinking the dettol.
“I know Dettol is harmful, but God instructed me to use it. I was the first one to drink it,” he claimed, according to South African outlets.
In the past, South African pastors have come under the spotlight for ‘forcing’ their church members to engage in all sorts of bizarre acts. These include, drinking petrol, chewing grass, swallowing snakes and many other crazy stuff, all in the name of God. It doesn’t look like it is stopping anytime soon.
