One beautiful thing about being a Ghanaian is the fact that you have a default name based on the day you were born.
If you are a woman and you were born on Sunday, you are by default called Akosua–and if you are a man, you will be called Akwasi.
We’ve put together the local names of some of our various Ghanaian Celebrities by using their public record date of birth and interestingly, some of them bear local names we think do not suit their personalities.
There’s this inner feeling that goes with each name–there are people who don’t look like Abena to us because we expect anyone called Abena to at least have certain attributes.
For this list, we use the Ashanti spelling of the given names–note that, if a person is Fante or belongs to another ethnic group, the spelling may be a little different.
