The Oscar-winning actor did not hold back in his criticism of the Republican candidate and real estate mogul in the lead up to the election earlier this month when he pulled off a stunning upset and beat Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
The New York native, 73, made his feelings clear last month October 16 in a video encouraging people to vote against Trump, who he branded “an idiot, a national disaster, an embarrassment to this country”.
However, now Trump has been voted into the White House, De Niro has taken a new stance on his presidency, insisting he’s waiting to see what type of leader he will be.
“I would only say that we’re all hoping, waiting and hoping, that he will lead the country in a way that’ll benefit everyone and benefit our neighbours around the world,” he told ITK on Tuesday. “That’s all. We’re waiting and hoping, and we’ll see.”
