The final five man shortlist for African Player of the Year has been revealed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The race to inherit Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s crown starts with the Gabonese international himself, who is in the running to win the coveted honour for a second consecutive year. Four time winner Yaya Toure failed to make the final five man list.
Aside the Borussia Dortmund forward, the other players on the list includes two Algerians, Riyadh Mahrez and Islam Slimani, both of English Champions Leicester City, Sadio Mane of Liverpool and Senegal, and AS Roma’s Egyptian winger Mohammed Salah.
The African Player of the Year award for 2016 would be given out at the awards gala slated for 5 January 2017.
