The city of Cincinnati in Ohio has bestowed the honour of naming an entire day every year after Ghanaian recording artist Okyeame Kwame for his efforts in fighting the epidemic that is Hepatitis B.
November 17 every year has been named ‘Okyeame Kwame Day’ for the residents of the city, with the Mayor John Cranley making the proclamation.
Okyeame was also presented with the keys to the city by Cranley, and named as International Cultural Ambassador to the city.
“Now, therefore, I John Cranley Mayor of the great city of Cincinnati do hereby proclaim November 17th 2016 as your day!”the mayor said in the November 21st ceremony.
“And we want to make sure you always come back to Cincinnati and we have an open door for you. So we’re also giving you a key to the city”, he added.
The ceremony took place at the Renew Community Church in Cincinnati, organised by the Black Nurses Association in the city.
Moving forward, Okyeame Kwame would collaborate with other artiste,s cultural and health agencies in the city to inspire people through his music and raise awareness for the fight against the illness.
