7. Grace Nortey (Maame Gyata)
After spending and giving over 40 years of her life to the movie industry in Ghana, she still remained a great influence on the movie enterprise in Ghana.
She has bemoaned the lack of professionalism in our current movie directors and script writers, making her step on toes— because of that she has been relegated to the background.
She has had an enormous experience and skill in the art of acting since the 80’s through to the early 00’s. She was a gift to Ghanaians in terms of acting and interpreting roles in all the films she has starred in.
She was and is still the actor’s or actress’s actress. Her command on the queens language made her a delight to watch. She was always seen as a strong willed actress making you go against her in movies, challenging because you would have to give your 100% best.
She is a legendary actress whose private and public life speaks volumes for herself. She was blessed with daughters too who acted alongside her in the movie enterprise. Her daughters, Sheila Nortey and Wendy Nortey were actresses too.
Mama Grace has been abandoned ever since she left our screens by most of her fans and the people she dedicated most of her over 40 years to.
Recently it is said she is bed ridden and has been admitted at Korle Bu hospital for treatment. We miss her on our screens, especially those from the 80’s through to the 90’s like me,who watched nothing like real Ghanaian films. We wish Mama Grace speedy recovery and good health, so she can help shape our enfant industry.
Indeed, we miss them!
