President John Dramani Mahama will today commission Accra’s newly built GH₵320.2 Million Kwame Nkrumah Interchange with colourful lights on full display–but not every Ghanaians is impressed.
On Facebook, several Ghanaians questioned why the commissioning will be done at night–with some replying that the night would allow the government to beautify the interchange with colorful lights to ‘fool’ Ghanaians.
Kwame Karikari wrote on Facebook: “This is beautiful but guess what, it is NEON LIGHTS—- let’s learn to demand what is profound from the people we choose to lead us.”
Prince Dannis Mensah also wrote: “If u build this nd the people cnt pay fare and drivers cnt buy fuel when we hv oil in commercial quantity and our oil refinery is rotting in bush, wat is de use of building this, only for proudness nd fame.”
And Frank Osei Yeboah said: “JM toaso se3 ghana Sika saaa wai. Farmers are unable to get fertilizers and see how the money is been used for..This government is getting the fundamentals wrongly.”
Looking at the magnificence, Anthony Sabuki simply asked: “Is it Dubai or Ghana? Nkrumah Circle facelift.”
And there were several conversations about cost: while some said JM has done really well, others argued that GH₵320.2 Million was too much for that interchange which they believe will still be flooded once it rains.
The project was jointly financed by the Brazilian government and the government of Ghana.
We’ve gathered some photos of the interchange from social media for your own appraisal–is it ‘JM Toaso or JM Twaso’ when you look at these?
