We live in a world where a few people, well educated and with a lot of money or power called the elites believe they know what’s good and ought to decide what’s better for everybody–even though they are in the minority.
From Brexit to Trump’s ascendancy to the highest office in the United States, what has become clear is that the elites who think they know better are being defeated and they are getting upset.
So far, democracy is our best shot at effective and accountable governance and it rests on the wishes of the majority, something the elites seem to be struggling with and would love to alter.
I’ve never been a supporter of Donald Trump, in fact, I called him a legend in stupidity and jingoism a few months ago and that has not changed.
But I am happy he won against Hillary Clinton and the establishment that rallied against him, especially the world media and the gang of elites.
Trump’s victory and Brexit ought to teach politicians all around the world, especially Ghana that, elitism has no place in a democracy as every individual, even if illiterate carries an equal voting power to decide.
It’s time we begin to get off our books, educational certificates and privilege connections–and begin to understand that the real wants of the people, the masses, the non-elites.
Until the gap between those up there, assuming all knowing attributes and those below there, considered idiots or uninformed is bridged, those we regard as idiots will magically continue to steer the wheel to where they want.
Democracy is a matter of numbers so everyone is important–though the elites seem to think they are more important and should be allowed to decide.
Elite? )no nso ne hwan?,,lol
