Bishop Daniel Obinim has officially been charged with causing physical abuse, contrary to section 4 of the Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) Act over flogging of two young adults a few months ago at his church.
Obinim has been granted a GHS10,000 bail with one surety to be justified by a Circuit Court in Accra and he’s due to reappear in court on 24 November 2016.
The founder and leader of God’s Way International Church made headlines in August when he flogged two of his church members openly in the church–with his media aide coming out later to say the man of God ‘assaulted’ the two because the guy had gotten the girl pregnant.
Obinim’s people explained that the man of God who is the father of the church is commanded by “Proverbs 13:24″ to use the rod to discipline his children, the congregation.
Following the incident, Nana Oye Lithur, a human rights lawyer and Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection filed a report at the Accra Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Office for investigations to be conducted into the incident.
