The President of the Muusicians Union of Ghana, Obour, has revealed that MUSIGA did not officially pay a visit to OJ Blaq whilst hospitalised because the hiplife turned gospel singer is not a member of their organisation.
Obour, speaking on Entertainment Review on Peace Fm during the week, said that not all musicians are automatically part of MUSIGA, and without being a member certain benefits cannot accrue to an artist.
According to Obour, not every musician automatically becomes a member of the union and therefore, what welfare funds exist is to cater for only its members. He was responding after OJ, also in the studio, noted that MUSIGA did not visit him during his sickness.
“MUSIGA has rules and regulations. Even though it is there for musicians, it focuses on the welfare of members. So how we deal with members is different from those who are not members.” he said.
Obour added that he went to see OJ personally but as a group, MUSIGA could not go there.
“When OJ Blaq was admitted, I went there in my personal capacity. It was the very day he was being discharged. From there, I moved to Obrafour’s end. I went as a friend; not MUSIGA president. It’s only members of the union whose welfare is catered for,”
Hiplife singer turned gospel artiste OJ Blaq is recovering after battling kidney ailment that kept his hospitalised and left him near death. The ‘Charley Wote’ hitmaker has decided since recovering that he would dedicate his life to God and become a gospel artiste.
