It’s almost unbelievable to contemplate but the upcoming movie, ‘Mandela’s Gun’ – is the first ever major movie about the legendary South African statesman that would actually have a South African playing him.
How incredible!
‘Mandela’s Gun’ tells the story of a gun Nelson Mandela used to own, a rumoured gift from the Ethiopan emperor Haile Sellasie. Mandela buried the gun upon his return to South Africa to join the fight against apartheid.
‘Mandela’s Gun’ is about a time during the youth of Mandela when he was more of an armed insurrectionist, a path he very well might have taken if not for a change of tactics.
“It’s the story of the first weapon of the armed struggle against Apartheid – and of a Mandela who was more in common with the angry youth behind #feesmustfall than the icon of reconciliation he later became,” said Sid Moroba Nkawe, a producer with South African film company DV8 Films.
The movie premiered at the Jo’burg Film Festival on Friday, October 28.
