Nigerian comedian Gordon’s has called for a highly unorthodox ban on the collection tithes and offerings to be placed on Nigerian churches by the government to help flush out all the fake pastors in the system.
Gordon’s made the comments during a comedy special, making it a little hard to discern whether he was being serious or joking – but there’s no doubt such a measure would lead to massive outcry if any politician thought of enacting it.
Gordon’s, a practicing Christian, said he believed entirely that religion could be the saviour of his country – but now it was just filled with so many charlatans simply concerned with making money.
“The only solution to our problems in Nigeria today is religion.” Gordon’s said.
“I will be the happiest person in the world if the federal government place a ban on giving of tithes and offerings from churches. I tell you, we will continue to lament as long as these people keep collecting the little one we have in the name of offering.”
He added that a lot of preachers are in it for the money and not because they received any divine calling.
“By the time tithes and offerings is declared illegal, then we will know those who were called by God and those who called themselves in the ministry.
“I tell you, some people actually saw miss call and not calling into church ministry.”
