Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump has laid a new charge on his opponent for the White House, Hillary Clinton, claiming that her plan for Syria could lead to World War III.
Trump has accused Mrs Clinton of everything under this sun, including literally founding Isis and rigging the upcoming elections in her favour – none of which has anyt merit – but for once he has found an attack that actually has some grounding in reality.
Speaking to the Reuters news agency at Trump National Doral golf resort in Miami, the 69 year old said that Clinton’s plan for Syria, which includes instituting a no-fly zone over disputed territory – could lead to World War III.
“You’re going to end up in World War Three over Syria if we listen to Hillary Clinton,” Trump told the agency.
“You’re not fighting Syria any more, you’re fighting Syria, Russia and Iran, all right?
“Russia is a nuclear country, but a country where the nukes work as opposed to other countries that talk.”
The no-fly zone is one policy Mrs Clinton has long touted that has been roundly criticised but which she continues to maintain. Even President Obama disagrees with the plan but Clinton believes that’s the best way to keep the region in check.
The main question about this, and she was asked about it at the last debate, was what her reaction would be in the likely event Russia violated the zone. Her response was some political babble which did not address the problem, which is what would be done if a Russian plane violated the zone. Would she shoot a Russian plane down? Which, if she does, puts us on the brink of World War III.
Donald Trump is a buffoon but for once, he has Hillary dead to rights.
In their response, the Clinton campaign claims Trump’s pronouncements are meant to stoke fears and originate from Russia.
“Once again, he is parroting Putin’s talking points and playing to Americans’ fears, all while refusing to lay out any plans of his own for defeating ISIS or alleviating humanitarian suffering in Syria,” Clinton spokesman Jesse Lehrich said in a statement.
