Obinim has made outlandish claims before (never proven any, of course) – claims of ability to turn into animals, steal money from bank accounts, ability to magically transport people across great distances in a flash – but even for him he seems to have crossed a line with a recent boast of his.
Speaking on his own OBTV, the Bishop claimed the ability to kill as many as 5 billion people in one night if he wanted and, rig any election for any candidate he wanted.
The outrage over his comments has apparently reached a crescendo where his camp felt worried enough to respond, so as usual his media aide, Joseph Osei Oppong Brenya came to put out the fire. Taking to Facebook, he wrote this entirely unsatisfactory (except to the brain dead) message calling for restraint from criticising the prophet.
To those who are insulting Angel Obinim for his comments about the election and what he can do as an Angel of God, please exercise restrain for you be ashamed if these issues are explained to you in details.

First of all, I don’t envy that guy his job. Working for Obinim must be a little like working on the Trump campaign, with the boss always setting fires which you must then quench.
But what use is an explanation going to do to skeptics who believe Obinim is full of crap anyways? Words on a paper is not going to prove anything to anyone, no matter how eloquently put – and I’ve read Brenya’s works, he’s far from being the most convincing writer in the world. Such an explanation would only satisfy those already willing to take Obinim at his word, but for those living without their heads in the sand it falls woefully inadequate.
What Ghanaians need from Obinim is a demonstration, one that proves any of his claimed powers which can then be used as a yardstick to judge his claims going forward. How about he kills everyone in the Eastern Region at a go? (random example), or we wake up one morning to hear Commercial bank has mysteriously lost a certain amount of money which has then reappeared in the bank accounts of all the members of Obinim’s church? How about he ‘spiritually’ flies the Black Stars to Egypt for their next game so Ghana doesn’t waste any money on airfare? He has a big enough mouth that any of these should be really trivial for him to carry out.
In the real world, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If all these is too much for him we can take him to the cardio thoracic centre or the burns unit at Korle-Bu on a random day so he heals even ONE person there of their ailment. An experiment carried out under scunitised conditions which can be verified, that would satisfy everyone in Ghana to get off his back.
Words on a page mean nothing, as do the babbling of those who attend his church claiming all sorts of cures. He can satisfy the gullible masses desperate for a better life who dote on his every word but for those who think with their eyes wide open, he remains the biggest charlatan this country has ever produced – until he takes us up on that challenge.
Maybe you can suggest your own test for Obinim to complete to convince Ghanaians that he is legit.
