Actress Juliet Ibrahim has said that she’s not going to join the celebrity rush to endorse political candidates this election cycle, pointing to some turmoil from her childhood as contributing to her decision.
Ibrahim, who’s lineage consists of parts of Ghanaian, Liberian and Lebanese, and who grew up in all three plus Cote d’Ivoire, said that what she has seen in terms of civil conflict at that time has made her wary of venturing into active partisan politics.
Speaking in a recent interview, Juliet refused to promise her allegiance to any party, noting that her experience with civil wars as a child has turned her off the whole thing.
“For me I’m not [a] political person. I have experienced three civil wars in my life. I was unfortunate. Liberia, Lebanon and Ivory Coast. I lost family members, I lost friends from war. I witnessed shooting at my parents in front of me,” Ibrahim said.
“As a young girl who went through all of that, I don’t involve myself in anything political. I have been approached by so many people… to be a part of something political but I’m sorry I won’t do it,” she added.
