Jay-Z is on the cusp of an unheard of achievement after he was nominated to enter the songwriters hall of fame, an honour no rapper has ever received.
The rapper was one of several nominees announced Thursday by the Songwriters Hall, the body that selects inductees each year.
Alongside Jay, other performers such as Madonna, Bryan Adams, Vince Gill, Babyface, Max Martin and Kool & the Gang are all up to be inducted.
The songwriters hall of fame take a songwriter into contention after twenty years in the industry. Jay-Z first album was released in 1996.
Voting would now be held for the final inductees to be chosen.
