US Federal Aviation Administration Makes Flying With A Galaxy Note 7 A Federal Crime Punishable By Ten Years Imprisonment And A $170,000 Fine

The US’ Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not only banned the use of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 handset on flights, but has also made it a federal crime to be caught doing so, punishable by some harsh sentences.
The Galaxy Note 7 has really caught a lot of grief for Samsung after it was discovered to burst into flames when overheated. It has led to numerous airlines and aviation authorities simply banning its use on flights.
The FAA has gone a step further, making it a federal offence to be caught carrying one of the banned handsets on a flight. Worse, one could receive a jail term of up to ten years and a fine running into hundreds of thousands of dollars, or both, if they violate Emergency Restriction/Prohibition Order No. FAA-2016- 9288.
Passengers who bring a Note 7 onto a plane, the order notes,  are “subject to civil penalties of up to $179,933 for each violation for each day they are found to be in violation (49 U.S.C. 5123),” and could be prosecuted, which could “result in fines under title 18, imprisonment of up to ten years, or both (49 U.S.C. 5124).”
