Embarrassment reigns for Ghana again as members of the female U-17 team strike over unpaid bonuses and per diems from their world cup adventure in Jordan.
In a case mirroring what happens to every national team not named the Black Stars, the girls are refusing to leave their hotel accommodations until they’re paid what is owed them.
The team is currently holed up at the Maresat Plaza Hotel after their return from Jordan, and even though they weren’t paid they played throughout the tournament, reaching the quarter final stage. They were promised their monies on return to Ghana, but even that has not been paid.
According to the team’s Management Committee Chairman, they do not even have any monies to give to the girls to go home even if they wanted to leave.
“Is very sad we don’t have even transport to leave for a various destination,” Augustine Asante told Starr FM.
“So we won’t leave the hotel. We were promised before we left for Jordan and yet we didn’t see anyone of the Sports Ministry.”
Ironically, every day more they spend at the hotel costs Ghana more money to be paid to the hotel. Despite his big talk of starving the Stars to take care of other national teams, Nii Lante Vanderpuye seems to be doing neither.
