Donald Trump does not apologise for anything, ever! It is a trademark of his personality and his entire life, and it’s something he’s boasted about in the past, saying that he doesn’t ask anyone for forgiveness, not even God.
So one has to realise that the scandal that can make Trump apologise has to be a huge one with serious ramifications for his campaign, otherwise he would not ‘debase’ himself by showing weakness (apologising) – and even then the apology contains digs at his opponent.
A leaked audio of Trump from 2005 speaking with Billy Bush (first cousin of former President George W.), shows him making misogynistic and debasing comments about women, elucidating behaviour that borders on s*xual assault.
Trump was telling Bush, then host of Access Hollywood, about his attempts to woo a married woman. (Trump himself was then newly married to Melania)
“I moved on her and I failed, I’ll admit it … I did try and f*ck her. She was married.” he told Bush.
“I moved on her like a b*tch but I couldn’t get there and she was married.
“I am automatically attracted to beautiful women. I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss, I don’t even wait … and when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything.”
“Grab them by the p*ssy. You can do anything.” he added.
The comments, leaked by the Washington Post Friday, has sparked outrage all across the political spectrum in America. It has forced the incorrigibly arrogant and belligerent Trump to apologise, for the first time in this campaign season.
“Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am. I said it. I am wrong. I apologise.” he said in a video released on his twitter page.
“I’ve never said I am a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I am not. I’ve said and done things I regret and the words released today on this more than decade-old video are one of them.”
But Trump, as usual, has to qualify his apology by pointing at someone else.
“I’ve said some foolish things but there is a big difference between the words and actions of other people. Bill Clinton has actually abused women and Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims. We will discuss this more in the coming days. See you at the debate on Sunday.”
