Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is close to owning the very club that launched his career, his manager has confirmed.
Gyan is in advanced talks with the powers that be at Dansoman based Liberty Professionals to buy a majority stake in the team.
Gyan played for the side as a teenager in the 2000’s, making his name as a deadly goalscorer before his move to Europe where his long and distinguished career really took off.
He has reportedly been in talks with club owner Felix Ashong for a few months now to takeover the club which is currently struggling with some financial burdens.
”I can confirm that we are in talks for major stake in Liberty but it is far from being done deal yet,” Samuel Anim Addo, Gyan’s business manager, told the state-owned Graphic Sports Newspaper concerning the deal.
”Liberty is close to Gyan’s heart and he wants to invest in the club which gave him the platform to reach the heights he has attained as well as ensure the dreams of and Liberty’s founder, Alhaji Sly Tetteh, are sustained. It’s also his way of honouring his mentor and keeping his legacy.
”Both before the deal can go though, Gyan needs the blessing of Alhaji Sly Tetteh’s family.”
