The High Court in Accra hearing the case of the injunction sought by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) seeking to stop the Electoral Commission from collecting filing fees has thrown out the case.
The PPP sent the EC to court claiming that the Ghc 50,000 filing fee being demanded by the body was unconstitutional, leading to an interim injunction being placed on the action by the court.
But hearing the case today, the trial judge said the PPP’s reasoning was flawed and the Commission was mandated by law to determine the fees.
The issue of filing fees was a matter of controversy last week during the filing of nominations as the EC rejected some fees and ironically, accepted the fee of the PPP.
The case has been peremptorily struck out, and the judge would give the reasons for the decision next week.
