Nigeria has announced that two out of its fleet of ten Presidential jets have been placed on sale as President Muhammadu Buhari looks to cut government excesses during a time of economic hardship.
Presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu has confirmed that two of the jets, the Falcon 7X executive jet and the Hawker 4000 aircraft, would appear in newspaper adverts for interested buyers to bid on.
Shehu also added that some of the others would be given to the Nigerian Air Force.
Cutting down on the unnecessary excesses in government was one of the President’s campaign promises, and he specifically cited the Presidential fleet as one area to cut down on.
Nigeria’s economy has slipped into a recession since Buhari took charge, as dwindling global oil prices affect revenue.
