The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) have cleared President John Dramani Mahama of any wrongdoing in the Ford gift saga after concluding their probe into the matter.
CHRAJ were investigating allegations of bribery against the President who received a Ford Expedition vehicle from Burkinabe contractor Djibril Kanazoe, a contractor who subsequently received contracts from the government of Ghana.
But after concluding their ‘probe’ – the Commission has ruled that there is no evidence of bribery against the President in his actions over the saga. The Commission said since he handed over the car to be joined to the State’s pool of vehicles, he was not culpable of bribery, fraud or conflict of interest.
The report however said the President violated the ‘gifts policy’ in place under the Code of Conduct for public officials.
CHRAJ’s report effectively brings to an end the months long saga over the President’s decision to receive such a gift from a contractor who has dealings with the government – sparked by a Joy News investigative report which interviewed the contractor who admitted to sending the gift to the President.
The full report, sighted by the Graphic, concluded that “full or further investigations into the allegations are not warranted. The allegations therefore, are hereby dismissed.”
