Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs consistently ranks as one of the highest earning entertainers in the world – his reward for building a business that goes beyond anything he could have achieved if he had just depended on his rapping skills.
Diddy has been involved in some philanthropic work in the past, but has really outdone himself this time with the announcement of a $1m scholarship fund to be disbursed by his alma matter, Howard University.
Diddy attended the school for two years in the 90’s, leaving before he could complete but crediting much of his success to the training he received whilst at the school.
To help underpriviledged ones coming up, the rapper announced the grant, named the Sean Combs Scholarship Fund, during a performance on the Bad Boy family reunion tour. He presented the $1m check Thursday to the President of Howard, Dr. Wayne Frederick at the Verizon centre.
“One of the biggest blessings is getting the chance to one day be able to give back,” Combs said. “And to support the people that supported you… If I didn’t get some help, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today.”
“I didn’t graduate from Howard. I was blessed to get my honorary degree but that doesn’t tell the whole story,” he continued.
“Because the only reason why I was able to chase my dreams was the empowerment that Howard gave me, the support that they gave me, the first two years.”
Diddy received a doctorate from the school in 2014.
“The university will start awarding the scholarships in the fall of 2017 to undergrads pursuing a business degree who maintain a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate a financial need.” Billboard reported. “Recipients will also be assigned a mentor from Combs Enterprises and spend a summer interning with Bad Boy Entertainment or Combs’ Revolt Media & TV network.”
