The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have elected Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin as the new President of the body following elections held to select a replacement for banned former boss Michel Platini.
Platini and former Fifa boss Sepp Blatter both received bans from football last year after an investigation into an alleged bribe the latter gave to the former.
The elections, held in Zurich earlier today, went to a last round of voting between Ceferin and the Dutchman Michael van Praag – with Ceferin winning the ballots by 42 votes to 13.
Ceferin, 48, has been head of the Slovenian Football Association since 2011, and would serve out the remainder of Michel Platini’s term, set to expire in 2019 – after which elections would once again be held.
