Member of hiplife music group VVIP and the ‘originator’ of the genre, Reggie Rockstone, has spoken out on the perceptions held of him and why he believes people are mistaken in judging him.
Reggie, speaking to the Graphic Showbiz, said that he believes since Ghanaians are not used to assertive and confident personalities, thus anyone who exhibits those character traits is then characterised as being ‘too known’.
“Me being a rapper, I talk for a living. I wasn’t raised to be meek but to express myself. In Ghana, when you are outspoken, you are tagged as too-known,” he said.
Reggie added he has been involved in so many public bust ups which make him seem arrogant because bloggers are always taking his words out of context. He said he’s not disrespectful but actually humble.
“I have a very huge following on social media and I am very interactive so I think the bloggers find me newsworthy. My personality is interesting to them and it is newsworthy. I instigate news but I don’t do that deliberately.
“I am not disrespectful because I exhibit humility at all times, my outspokeness and level of intelligence defines me.”
Asked why he always maintains on being the originator of hiplife if he’s so humble, he says he’s just interested in setting the record straight.
“I just had to set the records straight for generations unborn to know the truth because history should not be distorted,” Rockstone told the publication.
