Ten Big Ghanaian Stars Who Changed Clubs During The Just Ended Transfer Window

The end of the European Transfer window is always a hotly anticipated day, and one on which many, many deals for top stars are finalised. It is the last salvo of a two month rush of madness before the football world settles down until January 1st. Ghanaian players are numerous in Europe's top leagues, thus it is nearly inevitable that many move around during a transfer season. But what happened this window is nearly unprecedented, with numerous top Ghanaian stars changing clubs, for numerous reasons. Some were deemed surplus to requirements at old clubs, some actually advanced their careers with their moves, whilst others just wanted a change of scenery. What they all had in common was that a big player who currently or has in the past featured prominently for the Stars was on the move. These included both our captain and his deputy - it was indeed a huge window for Ghanaian players . Below are the ten biggest stars who changed clubs this window. JERRY AKAMINKO - Free Agent to Eskisehirspor Akaminko was a player for the Turkish second tier side from 2012 till earlier this year when he terminated his contract with them. After sitting on his bum for a few months, he went back to sign for the same side. Outstanding work. ALBERT ADOMAH - Middlesborough to Aston Villa (Undisclosed) The winger who can never quite hold down a place in the national side was involved in one of the strangest deadline day deals, leaving Premiership Middlesborough for Championship Villa, whilst Adama Traore went the opposite way. He reportedly joined the lower tier side for more money, signing a three year deal. ADAM KWARASEY - Portland Timbers to Rosenborg BK (Undisclosed) The shotstopper returned to familiar territory in Norway after a brief spell in Major League Soccer - where he continued to showcase his talent but never settled. He's back in the Stars team now, having had a turbulent relationship with a goalkeeper's trainer. RABIU MOHAMMED - Free Agent to Anzhi Makhachkala (last club Kuban Krasnodar) The combative midfielder's career has been set back numerous times by injuries, and he'll be hoping to get back on track with this move. He joined Anzhi after his contract with fellow Russian side Kuban ran out. ABDUL RAHMAN BABA - Chelsea to Schalke 04 (loan) The Black Stars left back joined Chelsea from Augsburg last year, but failed to convince under both Mourinho and later caretaker coach Guus Hiddink. Farmed out to Schalke to regain his mojo, he'll be lucky to find his former manager at Augsburg, Markus Weinzier, waiting there for him. WAKASO MUBARAK - Rubin Kazan to Panathinaikos (Undisclosed) The fresh dad joined the Greek side back in July on a three year deal from Russian side Rubin. Despite signing for them since 2013, he had spent previous years on loan at both Celtic in Scotland and Las Palmas in Spain. Hopefully he can settle down more in Michael Essien's former side. CHRISTIAN ATSU - Chelsea to Newcastle United (loan) The pacey winger has had a torrid time in London since signing for Chelsea, loaned out year after year for more experience yet never coming back good enough. He might never be good enough to play for Chelsea, so I guess it's a good thing Newscastle have an option to buy in the contract. KEVIN-PRINCE BOATENG - Free Agent to Las Palmas (last club AC Milan) The retired Ghanaian international has been something of a nomad throughout his career, and he continued that tradition after moving to Spain following the expiry of his contract with former side AC Milan. He's already setting records: drawing the biggest crowd for the unveiling of a Las Palmas player and scoring in his debut to accomplish a very rare football record. ASAMOAH GYAN - Shanghai SIPG to Al Ain Dubai (loan) The biggest showman in Ghana sports had a miserable window, but for once he didn't have the biggest story to be told - even if he tried his best to usurp the headlines by failing a medical. But with the calibre of career he's built, he can't be the biggest Ghanaian on the move. Gyan went back to the Gulf, joining Al-Ain after being declared surplus to requirements at his Chinese side and failing a medical for a Championship side. ANDRE AYEW 'DEDE - Swansea City to West Ham (£20.5m) Without doubt the Ghanaian who had the biggest and most fulfilling transfer, and who genuinely captured global headlines. Ayew's career is on a steady upward trajectory, and he's already proven what many have long suspected, he's the heir apparent to the Ghanaian armband. Ayew joined West Ham for a club record fee, after just one season tearing it up in South Wales for Swansea. At 26, he's the present and the unmistakable future of Ghana football, to carry the torch, both locally and internationally, dropped by the likes of his legendary father, Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien. God knows Gyan isn't doing that.
