The back and forth over the most elusive $100,000 in history continues, after the outgoing moderator of the Presby church, Rev Emmanuel Martey’s comments about refusing a bribe seems to have opened a can of worms.
The aged clergyman told reporters in Accra that some politicians attempted silencing him by offering him some cash and a house, gestures which he claimed he refused.
But things took a drastic turn when a former PRO of the Presby Church came out to counter what the Reverend Martey said. Dr. Emmanuel Osei Acheampon said that the Reverend actually took the money and a car, the same things he claims he refused in his speech yesterday.
A new report now cast doubts on both accounts, with the EiB owned Ultimate Fm claiming that Martey actually received the car and the bribe, and that both were presented to him as a birthday gift, handed over at a time he was marking his birthday.
The report claims the Reverend received both at the time, but became suspicious when he was asked to come inspect a new mansion at Trasaaco, which tipped him off to the fact that he was being bribed to keep his mouth shut.
The Reverend then refused the earlier offers and had them returned, the report claims, quoting deep throat sources.
“They never made known to him the real intent of the gift.” the source was quoted as saying. “It was presented to him as though it was a birthday present but after the real rationale behind the gift was uncovered, he returned it” the source reportedly told the publication.
The plot thickens.
