Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has completed a move back to the Gulf over a year after he left, signing for United Arab Emirates side Al Ahli.
The 30 year old pivoted back to the region after failing to land a move in England due to his diminished physical prowess, and thus returns to his comfort zone.
He joins on a one year loan deal from Chinese Superlig side Shanghai SIPG, who were desperate to offload him after becoming surplus to requirements.
Gyan played in the UAE league for three years for Al Ain, scoring 128 goals in 123 games.
The Ghanaian international underwent a mandatory medical before the move, leading to noises from his camp that reports he failed a medical were rubbish.
But then, the league in the Emirates is far from the level of the English top or second tier. What would be fit there would be woefully inadequate at the top level. I wouldn’t brag about this move if I were Gyan.
