The lawyer for one of the judges implicated in the Anas judicial expose, Justice Paul Uuter Dery, has come out strongly in protest of the decision by the Ghana Journalist’s Association (GJA) to award the investigative journalist with the journalist of the year award.
Anas picked up the award at the awards gala held over the weekend, and Nii Kpakpo Addo, counsel for the Justice, claims it is a huge mistake to award Anas whose conduct in the expose they claim is under investigation.
Speaking on Joy News, the lawyer said the GJA’s action is rewarding bad behaviour and is tantamount to contempt of court.
“The Supreme Court of this country has stated that the action of Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye are unlawful in respect of showing the said video to the general public.” Nii Kpakpo said.
“Secondly there are ongoing court proceedings and you still go ahead and say you are awarding the person. It is wrong. It is actually in contempt of court,” he added.
Justice Dery is one of dozens of judges implicated in judicial bribery after a spectacular investigative report by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, most of who were kicked off the bench. Paul Dery has fought the proceedings throughout, maintaining his innocence and starting several lawsuits against Anas.
