Parliament Recalled From Break As Minority Seeks To Impeach Mahama For Ford Expedition 'Bribe'

Member’s of Ghana’s august house have been recalled from their respective vacations for an emergency session as the minority attempts impeachment proceedings against President John Dramani Mahama.
The recall order was reportedly sent out by the Speaker, honourable Edward Doe Adjaho, Friday evening, pursuant to a petition signed by over 100 minority MP’s.
Article 112 (3) of the Constitution stipulates that Parliament must sit to consider a petition if 15% of MPs sign it.
The NPP are bringing impeachment proceedings against the President over his infamous receipt of a Ford Expedition vehicle from a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe. The contractor and the government have signed numerous deals both prior to and after receipt of the vehicle, and the NPP postulates that it was a bribe intended to influence further awards of contracts.
The motion, though, is unlikely to get anywhere in the house, what with the NDC comfortably holding the majority. The NDC MP’s are describing the move as a waste of time.
“They are calling us for a purpsose which unfortunately I think is a very wasteful. One which is not going to fly and won’t succeed,” Asawase MP Mubarak Muntaka told Joy News.
The MP’s are expected back in Parliament on Thursday, September 1.
