Two days in an Obinim has yet to turn into a snake or even a housefly to escape from custody – contrary to all the noise he has made into our ears all these years.
The embattled Bishop spent Wednesday night in police custody, the second straight day he has spent behind bars after his Tuesday arrest.
Obinim is being held on unrelated charges of assault and fraud – related to his flogging of two church members who he said are his wards, as well as for allegedly defrauding a man out of Ghc 11.6m.
Obinim would appear in court today (Thursday), where his lawyer is expected to plead for bail.
Atta Akyea told Joy Fm that Obinim should have already been released on bail, but the Police continue to hold him.
“If you flog children in public or even in private, the worst case scenario is a dismeanour – a bailable offence – I don’t know whether they are using his incarceration as a way of punishment or what. I don’t understand the logic of it,” he said.
