I guess the floodgates for petitions have been opened with the pardon of the Montie 3 – with a change.org petition started to get Dr Sulley Ali-Gabass freed.
Dr Ali-Gabass was the doctor at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region who was arrested for defiling a boy after a sting investigative report by Manasseh Azure revealed his secrets.
He was sentenced to 25 years in jail after being convicted of defilement in July last year.
The petition, started by one Dr Fiifi Brakatu, says the doctor has learned from his mistakes and deserves a pardon for the exemplary life he led prior to his crime.
“His actions deserve total condemnation by any well-meaning citizen. However, we believe that his past contribution to society, particularly by serving diligently as a medical doctor who performed countless bloodless surgeries at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Sekondi, significantly helped in reducing the maternal mortality ratio within the western region of Ghana.” the petition read.
“We believe his skills as a medical practitioner could even be employed to the benefit of the various facilities at the Ghana Prisons Service which has for years been plagued with a dearth of medical practitioners.”
The signatories are therefore entreating President Mahama to exercise his constitutional authority and pardon the doctor.
