Ex-wife of the actor Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, is donating the $7m she got in her divorce settlement to charity.
Heard has selected two charities – each of which work with abused women and sick children – to donate the entirety of the settlement to.
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp underwent a tumultuous divorce that was settled earlier this week, during which Heard accused the actor of physically hitting her.
“Money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.” Heard said in a statement announcing the decision.
“As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7m and $7m is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future.”
Heard will give half of the $7m to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to fight violence against women, and half to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
“I know these organisations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future. Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.” she added.
