One prominent trait among politicians of a certain ilk is that they never admit to wrongdoing- they just double down on whatever absurd pronouncement they made as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.
Donald Trump has done this well his entire campaign, and now Nii Lante Vanderpuye is indulging as well.
The MP for Odododiodio and Minister for Youth and Sports said over the weekend that Nana Addo cannot be President for the mere fact that he’s a short man. Despite near universal condemnation, Nii Lante has refused to apologise and during an appearance on Joy News, merely doubled down on the position.
According to him, the NPP insults their political opponents all the time, so he does not see why they are crying foul over his statement. He said if it pains them so much, he would continue using it in his speeches.
“Who do the NPP think they are? Who are they that no one can talk about?” an incensed Nii Lante said. “The problem I have with the NPP is that they think they are superior to everyone else. They think that they have high blood in their veins that nobody else has,” he continued.
“They think that they have the audacity… the absolute authority to insult people and to call people names but when you say something that does not amount to an insult they go haywire…who do they think they are? If they can stand there and call President Mahama incompetent, ignorant…they called late President Mills visionless and clueless and they think the word short is an insult? Who do they think they are?”
Nii Lante added that his constituents absolutely loved his comments, and thus he would continue to use them to excite his people.
