We took two and we were crying – these guys are taking fifteen! It’s the largest prison transfer in Barack Obama’s tenure.
The United Arab Emirates have taken receipt of fifteen former inmates of the US terrorist holding cell on Guantanamo Bay, as Obama continues efforts to empty the prison before he leaves office.
The fifteen includes 12 Yemeni nationals and three Afghans.
The government of Ghana announced in January that we had taken in two inmates from Guantanamo Bay, a decision that sparked intense public outcry over its abruptness and the danger it poses to the country. It sparked weeks of public discussions that have since died down, and the two are presumably being rehabilitated in the country.
